Originally from New York, Kristin Wilmes was in the wholesale seafood industry for eight years before coming to California. Drawn to the West Coast for surf and sand, Wilmes took his cold chain management experience and went to work for a San Diego-based trucking company. It didn’t take long to recognize the opportunity to create a reliable coastal transport business.
In 1999, JoAnne and Kristin Wilmes launched K’s Refrigerated Transport out of Leucadia, with a single dedicated refrigerator truck. The business initially thrived on the transportation of florals, plants and perishables. Quickly adding more to the fleet, K’s became the premier carrier for flower and plant growers in Southern California. More than 15 years later, K’s serves the SoCal Coast, handling all types of cargo for an array of accounts.
